FAIRMONT - Fairmont Area Schools has announced its choices for high school principal and assistant principal.

After interviewing three candidates, a selection committee chose Kim Niss for the principal's job and Jamie Goebel as assistant principal.

Niss is currently a math teacher at Fairmont High School, while Goebel serves as the K-12 principal at Rothsay Public Schools, located north of Fergus Falls. Rothsay has a population of 500.

The two have accepted the positions, but their contracts still must be approved by the school board, which will consider them on May 28. Niss has been offered a salary of $96,045; and Goebel a salary of $81,816.

The committee interviewed Niss and Goebel for the principal position on Saturday.

"The committee made a recommendation to select these two administrative positions as one team due to their strengths in curriculum and instruction," said Superintendent Joe Brown. "I am confident that Mrs. Niss and Mr. Goebel are in a position to move our secondary school to the next level."

The district announced last month that it would a seek an assistant principal as part of an administrative restructuring that includes hiring the assistant principal at the high school and a dean of students at the elementary school.

Applications were already being accepted when current high school principal Dave Paschke announced he was planning to retire at the end of the school year.
