Knights, Jayhawks produce victories

TRUMAN - Josh Wolter delivered two hits, drove in one run and scored once to help guide the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Knights to a 7-5, rain-shortened nonconference baseball victory over the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs on Friday in Truman.

Dylan Petrowiak produced a double, one RBI and one run scored to pack punch to the Knights' winning performance.

Starting pitcher Chandler Greier allowed one run on one hit, struck out six, issued three walks and hit one batter in three innings of work to earn the victory for Martin Luther/ GHEC/Truman.

Sam Geistfeld gave up four runs on four hits, struck out three and walked on in two innings of relief to net the save for the Knights.

Matt Kopischke and Ricky Johnson each supplied RBI singles for JWP.

Martin Luther/ Gran-ada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman (4-2, 2-1 Valley) hosts Lyle/ Austin Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Truman.

Madelia/Truman 9, Southwestern United 8 - Samantha Groskreutz scored the game-winning run on a throwing error in the bottom of the seventh inning to pace the Jayhawks' non-league triumph over the Raiders on Friday in Madelia.

Beth Kotewa went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to help top M/T's offensive effort, while teammate Sierra McCraw went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Savannah Stevens belted a two-run triple during the Jayhawks' three-run fourth frame, while Hanna Hartman supplied two hits.

Kotewa allowed eight runs on 12 hits, struck out seven and walked one in pitching the seven-inning distance to chalk up the complete-game victory.

Kassaundra Rossow went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI for SWU, Samantha Obermoller delivered two hits and one RBI, while Megan Haberman went 2-for-3 with a triple.

Madelia/Truman (4-4) travels to Lake Crystal for a 4:30 p.m. game Tuesday before hitting the road to Mapleton for Game 2 of a split doubleheader against Maple River at 6:30 p.m.
