LEAVENWORTH - The Fairmont Martins scored six runs and shut out the Leavenworth Orioles 6-0 in the season opening victory in Leavenworth on Sunday.
Dustin Sobolik had two hits, including a double to lead the Martins at the plate. Adam Schmidt added a double and Ian Bents had one hit, driving in two RBIs.
Scott Chirpich and Jay Ruen each added a hit for the Martins.
Bents pitched five innings and allowed four hits, striking out four and walking two to earn the win.
Chirpich came in and struck out two in two innings of relief, before Schmidt pitched the final two innings and struck out four.
Fairmont (1-0) will host the Milroy Irish in a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, May 12 in Fairmont.

Blue Earth Area 4, United South Central 1 - The Bucs split a doubleheader against the Rebels and Waseca on Friday in Blue Earth.
Abby Nimz allowed seven hits and struck out 11 as she pitched to a 4-1 complete game victory in the opening opener against the visiting Rebels.
The heart of the Bucs lineup supplied the offense to back up Nimz's pitching efforts. Bethany Olson, Ashton Hendricksen, Kylie Ahl, Janessa Jahnke, Monica Krieger and Chelsea Owen each went 2-for-4 batting.
Olson scored a run to help the Bucs take the win.
Audrey McDonald, Whitney Pirsig and Nimz each added a hit in the game.
Olson went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple in the second game, but Waseca's offense helped the visitors earn a 4-1 South Central Conference win.
Evie Leland reached first on a walk and scored the Bucs lone run on Olson's triple.
Jahnke had a pair of hits in the second game, going 2-for-3 in the game.
Henricksen had two hits, while McDonald, Pirsig and Krieger each added one hit.
Megan Wirtjes pitched seven innings, allowed ten hits and struck out six in the contest.
Blue Earth Area (1-3, 1-1 SCC) plays host to St. Peter in a 5:30 p.m. game today in Blue Earth.
