Mavericks squeeze past Bucs

SHERBURN - The Martin County West Maverick boys and girls golf teams swept their first dual meet of the season, downing the Blue Earth Area Bucs at Fox Lake Golf Course in Sherburn on Tuesday.

Morgan Larson scored a meet-low round of 45 to help the Mavericks to a 209-210 win over the Bucs, while Conner Anderson scored a 39 to pace MCW to a 179-183 win on the boys' side.

Larson got some scoring help from Kelci Russenberger and Tayler DeVary, who scored 53 and 55, respectively.

Jennifer Peterson and Kaleigh Russenberger rounded out the scores with a 56 and 61 for the Mavericks.

Natali Fellows scored a 47 to lead the Blue Earth Area effort, with Autumn Drake close behind with a round of 50.

Anna Aukes and Aeli Olson secured rounds of 56 and 57 for the Bucs, while Ashley Peterson and Olivia Myers came in the clubhouse with rounds of 68 and 71, respectively.

On the boys' side, Anderson's 39 led the Mavericks, while defending Class A state champion Cordell Weber shot a 40 for MCW.

Hunter Olson and Chris Kahler added 49 and 51, respectively to the Mavericks scoring.

Tyson Crosby and Gavin Tlam carded a 56 and a 57, respectively.

Lane Anderson scored a 42 to top the Bucs, Zach Curtis and Trevor Zierke each scored 46, while Logan Jacobs contributed a 49.

Connor Thielfoldt and Josh Anderson completed the Bucs with scores of 50 and 56, respectively.

MCW (1-0) hosts United South Central at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Fox Lake Golf Course, while BEA plays in the Jordan Invite on Friday.
