SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A funeral service for Clara F. Gieser, 101, of Sioux Falls, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls.
Gieser died April 4, 2013, at Prince of Peace Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Clara Frieda Wendt, the daughter of John H. and Minnie (Schoening) Wendt, was born May 10, 1911, in Lakefield, Minn. She graduated from high school in Lakefield in 1930 and went on to attend Madam DeGuiles Hairdressing School. Clara was then employed in a beauty shop.
On Sept. 10, 1938, Clara was united in marriage with Walter G. Gieser in Lakefield, Minn. The couple moved to Everly, Iowa, to run a grocery store before moving to Fairmont, Minn. in 1954. Clara worked as a hairdresser for over 10 years, as well as doing home perms. She also worked in the church lunch program at a parochial school for 20 years. Walter died Feb. 14, 1967. Clara moved to Sioux Falls in 2005.
Clara was a member St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, knitting, crocheting and playing tennis. Her greatest love, however, was taking care of her grandchildren.
For the last four years, Clara had been a resident of Prince of Peace Nursing Home. The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the loving staff at Prince of Peace for their loving care that they gave their mom.
Grateful for having shared her life are two daughters, Barbara Wippich of Liberty, Mo., Judy (Norman) Meyer of Sioux Falls; one son, David (Mary) Gieser of Luling, Texas; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; a son-in-law, Marvin; and a sister, Sadie.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
