FAIRMONT - Funeral services for David R. Meyer, 80, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont. Military honors will be provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County VFW Post 1222. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

David passed away on Sunday morning, March 24, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today, March 26, at Lakeview Funeral Home, Fairmont, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.

David Rolf Meyer was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Percy and Milda (Hilgemeier) Meyer. He attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School. After school, David enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1953. He served in Korea and Vietnam as a Communications Chief. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. David received an honorable discharge when he retired on Feb. 28, 1973. David was a life-member of the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County VFW Post 1222, and was active for many years with the military honor squad. During his free time, David enjoyed playing Bingo and helped out whenever they had Bingo nights at the VFW and Legion. He also loved watching sports on TV. Left to cherish his memory include his daughter, LaVonne Reardon and her husband, James, of Brandenburg, Ky.; son, Franz Meyer; daughter-in-law, Sharon Meyer of Winthrop, Minn.; grandchildren, Tena York of Brandenburg, Ky., Michael Reardon and his wife Teri, of Brandenburg, Ky., Clint Reardon and his wife Elizabeth, of Brandenburg, Ky., Karen Meyer and her special friend Terry Poock, of Gaylord, Minn., and John Meyer of Gaylord, Minn.; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerald Meyer and his wife Ardyce, of Fairmont, Minn., and Ronald Meyer of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Patricia Davis and her husband Russell, of Eugene, Ore., and Marilyn Champney of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Percy and Milda Meyer, David was preceded in death by his son, Allen Meyer; brother, Delmar Meyer; and a brother in infancy.
