The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Richard Leonard White was born on Sept. 25, 1942, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Horton and Geneva Rose (Meschke) White. He attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1960. On June 20, 1964, he was united in marriage to Jan Larson in Battle Lake, Minn., and they made their home in Fairmont where they raised five daughters, Lisa, Cheryle, Debra, Heather and Nicole. For more than 40 years, Richard made his living as an over-the-road truck driver. He was proud to be a Teamster and regardless of what the cargo was, he always took great pride in his profession. Throughout his years on the road, Richard was a loyal friend to those he worked with and he did a great job staying connected with family and friends back home. Richard will long be remembered as a passionate Sprint Car race fan having attended weekend races throughout southwest Minnesota and Iowa for as long as the family can remember. He also enjoyed fishing, and especially looked forward to the annual trip with brother Tom to Lake of the Woods. That annual trip became therapy and motivation on countless levels for both Tom and Richard, as well as nephews Aaron and Justin who joined when they could. Richard is leaving his family and friends with countless stories and memories that will be shared and enjoyed for years to come ... and as only he could do, he even provided some 'classic moments' in his final days. The family would like to thank the incredible staff at the Mayo Clinics in Fairmont and Rochester, for the great care and treatment provided to Richard, not only during his final weeks, but throughout the various battles and challenges he faced. For more than 30 years, Richard provided the fight, the will and the attitude, while the doctors and nurses provided the medicine, the expertise and a quality of care that was on so many occasions, exactly what Richard and the family needed in order to have the confidence to keep battling and moving on.

Richard passed away peacefully on Saturday night, March 2nd, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester at the age of 70. He spent his final day surrounded by his entire family, fulfilling one of his last wishes. Those that will cherish his memory include his wife of 48 years, Jan White of Fairmont; five daughters, Lisa Zender and her husband Mark, of Mahtomedi, Minn., Cheryle Vadeboncoeur and her husband Brett, of Burnsville, Minn., Debra Edens and her husband Dave, of Marshall, Minn., Heather Richard and her husband Pat, of Woodbury, Minn., Nicole Minton and her husband Ian, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; five grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Zender, Dakota and Dalton Edans, Avery Shoemaker; brother, Tom White and his wife Robin, of Sherburn, Minn.; sister, Barb Nehls and her husband Steve, of Va.; cousins, other relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Horton and Geneva Rose White and sister, Sande.
