FAIRMONT - How familiar are you with Fairmont's park system? How about the trail system?
The city of Fairmont has set up two online surveys, one on trails and another on parks, with a goal of gauging where improvements are needed based on the feedback.
It takes maybe 10 minutes to complete each 10-question survey, which can be accessed through the city's website at www.fairmont.org/docs/Survey2013.htm
The results of the trail survey could help city staff apply for grants to pay for the cost of the most sought-after improvements, and ultimately to make Fairmont a friendlier city for bikers and walkers.
The park board, meanwhile, is seeking input on what citizens want to see at the parks. This survey asks questions like which amenities attract people to a certain park, which things people believe should be the highest priority in the parks and what the park system can do to become more environmentally friendly.
The city used SurveyMonkey, a free online service, to create the survey.
"This is a quick and easy way to get the survey out there without having handwritten results that someone has to physically decipher, sort through and tabulate," said Fairmont's public works director Troy Nemmers.
The city also will send out notices regarding the surveys through Facebook and Twitter, and to anyone who has signed up to receive email updates from the city.
