Ervin H. Cordes

SHERBURN - A celebration of life service for Ervin H. Cordes, 96, of Sherburn, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sherburn, Minn. with Rev. Steven D. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fairmont, Minn.

Ervin was called to his eternal rest on Saturday evening, Jan. 12, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System hospital in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Ervin Henry Cordes, son of Otto and Lena (Lintelman) Cordes was born on April 12, 1916, in Rolling Green Township, Martin County Minn. He was baptized on April 22, 1916, and confirmed on April 13, 1930, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Monterey, Minn. He graduated from Tri-Mont High School on May 31, 1934. Ervin farmed with his dad in Cedar Township. Ervin played with the Harold Carlson Band where he met Emma Bruhn and later were married on June 1, 1941, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn. After their marriage, they farmed in Elm Creek township, where he also graded roads. They also farmed in Silver Lake and Cedar townships. They were very active in 4-H, and later were both adult leaders. In 1966, Ervin was employed as a custodian for 15 years at the Trimont Schools. At the age of 70, he started farming with his son in Martin County until the age of 86. Ervin and Emma moved into Sherburn in 1984. In 2000, they became residents of Woodland Manor in Fairmont, Minn. Emma died Aug. 26, 2005. He enjoyed playing cards, polka music, spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many close friends. Ervin enjoyed his hobby of putting together puzzles and sharing them with others. They were active members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn and its senior Lutherans. They enjoyed bus trips to many parts of the United States.

He will be greatly missed by his children, daughter and her husband, Eileen and Larry Fringer of Blaine, Minn.; son and his wife, Earl and Charlotte Cordes of rural Sherburn, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Sharon Cordes of Jackson, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Laura Fischer, Christal Schoer, Ervin Fringer, Rebecca Cordes, Janice Fringer, Lt. Roger Fringer and Andrew Cordes; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Logan Schoer, Abigail and Seth Fringer; brother, Harold Cordes of Fairmont, Minn.; sister, Gladys Nelson of Billings, Mont.; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma Cordes; son, Ervin Jr.; grandson, Daniel; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and other relatives.
