FAIRMONT - Before this winter is out, tenants will be living in the new duplex on the 1200 block of North Prairie Avenue in Fairmont.
Its the fourth duplex Fairmont Housing and Redevelopment Authority has built since 2007, when a fire destroyed 10 apartments at the Friendship Village public housing complex. That leaves one more duplex to be built, in order to replace the units lost to the fire.
On Monday, the housing authority asked city staff to put together a list of locations around Fairmont that would work for the final project. The authority, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Redevelopment, is open to building on a bare lot or demolishing a blighted structure, which also would aid in improving the appearance of a residential neighborhood.
