SHERBURN - Seven Fairmont/Martin County West Red Bulls wrestlers garnered double wins to help generate a sweep over Waseca, 69-12, and New Ulm, 59-15, during a South Central Conference triangular on Tuesday in Sherburn.

Seventh-grader Collin Steuber (106), Trent Rossow, Tanner Lange (152), Joe Weber (160), Nathan Gillis (182), Kory Brown (195) and Colton Hines (285) each won two matches to lead the Red Bulls to double-digit victories.

Steuber started the second dual against New Ulm with a hard-fought 6-3 victory over the Eagles' Ryan Wacker at 106.

Senior Class 2A, No. 1-ranked 106-pounder Trevor Schultz made quick work of his 113-pound match by pinning Elijah Northquist in 29 seconds. Rossow then increased the Red Bulls' lead by posting a 16-0 technical fall over Tanner Stark in 4:20.

Conner Malo took a win at 126 with a New Ulm forfeit, but the Eagles clawed their way back from a 20-0 deficit.

"I was very impressed by our young guys in their matches. If you looked at the matchups, we had a lot of younger wrestlers taking on juniors and seniors," said Fairmont/Martin County West head coach Jake Tietje.

New Ulm came back in three straight matches to make it 20-15 midway through the dual meet. Jagger Hoffmann pinned Remington Kuehl at 3:20 for the first Eagle victory in the match at 132, and Luke Cihak followed by defeating Elijah Gronewold, 7-1, at 138.

Cihak took a 2-0 lead with a takedown in the first period, but an escape by Gronewold cut the deficit in half. Right as the first period ended, Cihak recorded another takedown to increase his lead to 4-1, and he would hold on in the third for the victory.

Austin Brandes then continued New Ulm's roll with a pin of Harley Luhmann at 3:47 at 145.

With a five-point lead, the Red Bulls' Tanner Lange was able to stop the bleeding - literally - to win a 1-0 decision over Sam Hoppe at 152.

Lange secured the only point of the match in the second period on an escape, despite a pair of stoppages for his bloody nose.

"Tanner and Collin's matches in the New Ulm dual were big wins for us. We had a couple letdowns, but Tanner really was able to stop the bleeding and get the momentum back in our favor," said Tietje.

From there, the Red Bulls were effective, pinning each of the final six matches in a combined time of 10:05.

Weber took the 160-pound win over Riley Shelgren in 49 seconds, followed by Phillip Bowie, who pinned Nate Janke in 3:36.

Gillis kept the pin parade going with a win at 182 in 1:01 over Adam Schnobrich and Brown won at 195 over Cole Wilfahrt in 1:54.

Luis Figueroa and the Class 2A, No. 4-ranked Hines completed the pin sweep with wins at 220 and 285 over Lorenzo Hernandez and Andy Bregel in 1:57 and 38 seconds, respectively.

"I was very pleased with our number of pins tonight. I told our guys before the second match whoever has the most pins will win the dual. And we were able to," said Tietje.

In the opening dual with Waseca, the Red Bulls recorded five pins and four forfeits to help engineer a 69-12 victory.

Steuber claimed his first win of the night with a 5-0 decision over Noah Schmidt at 106 to start off the dual.

Kuehl recorded a pin for the win at 132 over Killian Jackson at 3:04, and Gronewold followed with a pin at 138 over Sergio Garcia in 33 seconds.

Lange and Weber each pinned their opponents in the second period, defeating Caesar Gallegos and Jack Milbrett at 152 and 160 in 2:51 and 2:39, respectively.

Gillis pinned Dylan Winegar in 41 seconds in the 182-pound match, while Brown pinned James Ebertowski at 195 in 2:46.

Hines finished out the dual with a 25-second pin for a win over Sam Sierra at 285 for the Red Bulls.

The Bluejays' Zach Gehloff pinned Phillip Bowie at 170 in 13 seconds, while Jacob Claybaugh pinned Figueroa in 1:42 at 220 for the two Waseca victories.

Fairmont (2-0) hosts River Valley in a nonconference dual meet at 6 p.m. Friday in Sherburn.
