TRUMAN - Truman City Council approved raising the city's local property tax levy by 3 percent for 2013 on Monday night at a public forum.
The $10,503 increase bumps up the levy to $360,620.
City Clerk Monte Rohman said the major changes between the 2012 budget and the 2013 budget are a $9,350 increase in the police budget to accommodate two full-time police officers and the loss of $3,494 in state police aid. Meanwhile, the city is saving $14,500 in capital outlays by postponing payments on a new truck for the street department.
The total budget for 2013 is $905,284.
In other business, the council accepted the resignation of city attorney Matt Nielsen and approved the hiring of attorney Jim Wilson.
