FAIRMONT - Services for Maxine A. McKean, 83, of Fairmont, formerly of Ceylon, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be held in the Lake Belt Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.
Maxine passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 25, 2012, at Ingleside Residence in Fairmont.
Maxine A. (Twedt) McKean was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of Sigurd and Minnie (Braland) Twedt. She attended school in Armstrong and helped out at home on the family farm near Armstrong.
On May 8, 1949, Maxine was united in marriage to James R. McKean at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. Together the couple made their home on a farm northwest of Armstrong and later moved to farm near Dunnell and into Ceylon in 1970. In 2003, the couple moved to Fairmont after James suffered a stroke. To this union, four children were born:?Cheryle, Lola, Viona and Arlen.
While in Ceylon, Maxine worked for the Ceylon School and also for the Prust Market. She was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong and transferred her membership to the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon following their move. Maxine was also a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club in Ceylon. She enjoyed traveling and taking trips with her family and also enjoyed making quilts and ceramics. Maxine also enjoyed playing cards and watching the Twins and Lawrence Welk.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Cheryle Foster and her husband, Stephen, of Kansas City, Mo., Lola Beyes and her husband, Karl, of Cameron, Mo., and Viona Sokoloski and special friend, Gary, of Fairmont, Minn.; five grandchildren, Chad McKean, Cory Winch and wife, Amy, Catrina Snapp and special friend, Scott, Craig Foster and his wife, Megan, Stephanie Jones and her husband, Levi; five great-grandchildren, Mariah, Dylan, Makya, Nodin and Addison; foster grandchild, Austin; four sisters-in-law, DeEtta Twedt, Joyce Peton and her husband, Richard, Gertrude Jensen and her husband, Calvin, and Margola McKean; one brother-in-law, Harry Helgason; a special friend, Glenn; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Sigurd and Minnie Twedt; husband, James Russell McKean; son, Arlen McKean; and son-in-law, Mike Sokoloski. Maxine is also preceded in death by all of her siblings; three brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
