FAIRMONT - Granada-Huntley-East Chain theatre students are preparing a tale of imagination, miscommunication and family dynamics.

"Nearly Beloved" will be presented Friday and Saturday at Fairmont Opera House. It is a story of the Maxwells and their three children. Two of the kids tend toward the mischievous, but the youngest, Courtney, lives her dreams in the pages of her imaginative diary.

Courtney writes wild stories starring her brother and sister, stories that cause trouble when a nosy father reads them and believes they are true.

NEARLY?BELOVED?— Granada-Huntley-East Chain students prepare for “Nearly Beloved” a play they will perform Friday and Saturday at Fairmont Opera House in Fairmont.

Bev Blazejak, director of the production, says students are having fun with the material.

"It is a comedy, and I think the kids are really enjoying it," she said.

Eleven students make up the cast, making it smaller than typical. The school's plays usually involve between 25 and 30 participants.

The change didn't phase Blazejak, however, as she chooses a show after students sign up to participate.

Students don't even need to audition for Blazejak to know which part is perfect for each.

"I know them so well, and I know their personality," she said. "They never complain about the parts they get."

Blazejak has directed the past 13 shows at Granada-Huntley-East Chain. About half were musicals. "Nearly Beloved" is her last production before retiring.

Tickets are $5 in advance at the school office or $6 at the door. Student tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door.
