LeRoy G. ‘Bud’ Eiden

FAIRMONT - Mass of Christian Burial for LeRoy G. "Bud" Eiden, 91, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial with full military honors will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont.

Bud passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 1, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Funeral Home.

LeRoy George Eiden was born Feb. 22, 1921 in Sherburn, Minn., the son of Henry and Catherine (Labert) Eiden. LeRoy grew up in Sherburn where he attended school. On May 29, 1942, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Klopp at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sherburn. That same year in July he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the European, African and Middle Eastern theatres. He served at Omaha Beach and was awarded the Normandy Medal. He was honorably discharged in September 1945 and returned to Sherburn to work as a meat cutter. He owned and operated Eiden's Royal Blue Grocery Store in Sherburn, and then moved to St. James and worked at Ralph's Super Value. They moved to Fairmont in 1981 and LeRoy worked as a meat cutter for Armour's Foods until retiring in 1986. Marge and LeRoy celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 29, 2007. Marge passed away on Dec. 16, 2007. LeRoy was currently living in the Truman Senior Living Center.

LeRoy was a member of the VFW, first in Sherburn then transferred to Fairmont. While living in Sherburn, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He has always enjoyed golfing, playing cards, watching and reading westerns. LeRoy's family was the most important thing to him and he loved to plan family events where everybody could get together.

Those who will cherish his memory include four daughters, Marcia Peterson (Bernie Sampson) of Minneapolis, Minn., Beverly Chicos (Daniel) of West Concord, Minn., Julie Frahm (Mark) of St. Clair, Minn., Jayne Kellam (Chris) of Welcome, Minn.; one son, Thomas Eiden (Mary Survis) of Fairmont, Minn.; 12 grandchildren: Christina Peterson, Amy Chicos, Allison McMartin, Carrie Neerland, Scott Eiden, Michael Eiden, Brady Survis, Sarah, Emily and Marissa Frahm, Journey and Hans Kellam; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Henry and Catherine Eiden; in-laws, William and Margaret Klopp; and wife, Marjorie, LeRoy was preceded in death by one grandson, Corey Eiden; son-in-law, John Peterson; three brothers, Leo, Leander and Raymond Eiden; four sisters, Elsie Griffin, Stella Bedford, Cecelia Blowers and Eleanor Traetow.
