PIPESTONE - The No. 4-seeded Pipestone Area Arrows posted a 25-15, 25-18, 25-21 sweep over the No. 5-seeded Fairmont Cardinals during Section 3AA, South Sub-Section quarterfinal volleyball action Friday night in Pipestone.
Pipestone Area advances to face the No. 1-seeded and Class AA, No. 6-ranked Jackson County Central Huskies at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the South Sub-Section semifinals in Jackson. The Huskies reached the next round via a 25-10, 25-20, 20-11 sweep over the No. 8-seeded New Ulm Eagles.
Outside spiker Kayla Lardy topped the Cardinals' effort by pounding down five kills. Senior hitter Paige Bearson closed her stellar prep volleyball career with four kills, while Kristen Campe also chipped in four kills.
Emily Kim distributed nine set assists for Fairmont, while connecting on two ace serves.
Elizabeth Kim closed out her prep volleyball career by connecting on a school-record 177 serves without an error.
Fairmont ended its season with an overall record of 11-12.
In the other half of the South Sub-Section, the No. 2-seeded Windom Area Eagles eliminated the No. 7-seeded Luverne Cardinals in quarterfinal action, 25-7, 25-8, 25-16.
The No. 3-seeded Worthington Trojans downed the No. 6-seeded St. James Saints, 25-18, 21-25, 25-7, 25-11, during sub-section quarterfinal play.
Windom Area plays host to Worthington at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in a South Sub-Section semifinal match in Windom.
