Knights, Bluejays fall in 2A playoffs

WELLS - The United South Central Rebel volleyball team extended its season with a 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-16 Section 2A, South Sub-Section play-in victory over the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain Knights on Monday in Wells.

The Rebels (9-16) advance to play No. 1 seed Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 7 p.m. Thursday in Lake Crystal.

The Knights finished the season with a 7-20 overall record.

Amanda Cegelske ended her prep volleyball career with 11 kills and two blocks for the Knights.

Kristi Oberdieck and Amber Schulz each tallied eight kills, while Schulz added one ace serve and seven digs.

Hunter Payne distributed 24 set assists and served one ace, while making four digs for the Knights, while Effie Bentz added 14 digs in her final prep match.

Mankato Loyola 3, Truman 0 - The Crusaders ended the Bluejays' season with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 Section 2A, South Sub-Section play-in victory on Monday in Mankato.

The Crusaders (12-13) advance to play No. 3 seed St. Clair at 7 p.m. on Thursday in St. Clair.

The Bluejays ended their season at 2-23.

Savannah Stevens led Truman with five kills, two ace serves and six digs. Hanna Hartman and Emma Wiederhoeft each scored three kills, while Hartman also added four digs.

Emily Zaharia tallied two kills, but made a team-best 12 digs.

Samantha Hartwig tallied one kill, served two aces and made five digs for the Bluejays.

Alexis Jahnz distributed 15 set assists and made seven digs, while Kaitlin Bloomquist made 12 digs.
