FAIRMONT - Funeral Service for Lyle F. Detert, 84, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont with interment in Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Monday, October 15, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Lyle passed away on Saturday morning, October 13, 2012, at the Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa.
Lyle Ferdinand Detert was born on July 27, 1928, in Elsworth Township, Iowa. He was the son of Ferdinand and Malinda (Rosenberg) Detert. He attended country school in Tenhassen Township.
On October 8, 1950, Lyle was united in marriage to Luella Schendel. This union was blessed with two children, Joyce and Leanne. They made their home near Ceylon and later moved to the Fairmont area. Lyle and Luella shared 28 years together before Luella passed away on February 21, 1979.
Lyle farmed near Ceylon and during the summer would work at Stokely's in Fairmont. He was a former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Ceylon and most recently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. During his free time he enjoyed hunting, camping and going to dances with Luella. He especially loved going fishing.
Left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Leanne Korolewski and her husband, Keith, of Fairmont, Minn., and Joyce Steenhard and her husband, Jim, of Ledyard, Iowa; grandchildren, Eric Korolewski of Liverpool, N.Y., Kristine Korolewski of Willmar, Minn., and Ryan Steenhard of Lakota, Iowa; brother, Paul Detert and his wife, Maureen, of Fairmont, Minn.; many other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Lyle was also preceded in death by his wife, Luella Detert.
