FAIRMONT - A Celebration of Life service for Shirley R. Wallien, 80, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at First Congregational, United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont.

Shirley passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, 2012, at her home in Fairmont. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Shirley Ruth Mandot was born July 15, 1932, in Rockwell City, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Ruth (Misbach) Mandot. She moved to Fairmont when she was 10 and attended school in Fairmont. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1950 and then attended the University of Minnesota. In September 1951, she married Rodney Wessel in Fairmont. Shirley worked part time as church secretary for the First Congregational, United Church of Christ. Shirley then worked at US Bank in Fairmont. On April 23, 1971, she was united in marriage to David Wallien and they lived in Fairmont. Shirley retired from US Bank in 1994. During retirement, they loved to travel and enjoyed the last 15 winters in Tucson, Ariz.

Shirley was a member of the Interlaken Golf Club and former member of the Jaycees and the Mozart's Marching Society. She loved to golf, play bridge, read and garden. She promoted the American Red Cross and supported the blood drives by giving over 5 gallons in her lifetime.

Those who will cherish her memory include her husband, David Wallien of Fairmont; three daughters, Shari Thielges and her husband, Steven, of Eden Prairie, Jodie Whitmore and her fianc, Al Siebert, of Fairmont, Liz Duncan and her husband, Jim, of Detroit Lakes; grandchildren, Dayton Whitmore, Kelsey Kadlec, Colby Whitmore, Tanner, Garret, Corbin and KaKenna Duncan; step daughter, Pamela McKeown and her husband, Tom, of Creston, Iowa; stepson, Paul Wallien and his wife, Colleen, of Aberdeen, S.D.; step grandchildren, Andy KcKeown, Megan Sears (Adam), Dan Wallien, Andrea Dietterle (Lucas); step great grandkids, Thomas and Emily Sears, Hailey Dietterle, Aiden and Kate McKeown; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Mandot; mother and step father, Ruth and Mitch Hughes; infant daughter, Jill Wessel; grandson, Cameron Whitmore; two brothers, Larry and Joe Mandot.

Memorials in Shirley's honor are preferred to First Congregational, United Church of Christ Music or Hospitality and United Hospital District Hospice.
