He attended St. Paul Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Fairmont High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 184th Infantry, the Red Bulls, during World War II in northern Africa and Italy. They lived in Truman and Fairmont, Minn., and wintered in Mesa, Ariz., for the last 25 years, where they enjoyed the company of family and friends and enjoyed the sunshine and mild climate. Previously, Jerry enjoyed golfing, gardening, playing cards, watching football and had a passion for cars. He liked to whistle a little tune as he went out the door and had a cheerful personality and positive attitude. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors.

Jerry truly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont, taught Sunday school and served on the board of elders and board of trustees. Jerry was a faithful Christian, sharing his faith with others.
