St. Peter spikers rally to trip Fairmont

ST. PETER - The St. Peter Saints volleyball team came back from a 2-0 deficit to take the 3-2 South Central Conference victory over the Fairmont Cardinals on Thursday night in St. Peter.

Fairmont took the first two games of the match, winning 25-22 and 25-14.

The Saints responded by winning three straight games, 25-22, 25-21 and 16-14.

Paige Bearson pounded out a team-best 19 kills for the Cardinals, while teammate Kayla Lardy tallied 14 spike-winners.

Emily Kim distributed 23 set assists and went 26-for-28 from the service line, including two ace serves, for Fairmont.

Elizabeth Kim went a perfect 19-for-19 serving, with one ace serve, and doled out 20 set assists.

Kristen Campe made 43 digs for Fairmont.

Fairmont (5-6, 3-2 South Central Conference) hosts Jackson County Central at 7:30 p.m. Monday night.

The Saints clipped the Cardinals, 16-25, 27-25, 16-14, in B-squad action in St. Peter on Thursday.

Sydney Glienke had seven kills and three aces for Fairmont, while Haley Harder added five kills.

Morgan Seifried scattered 10 set assists and served up three aces for the Cardinals.

The Saints outlasted the Cardinals, 24-26, 25-23, 15-11, in C-squad action in St. Peter on Thursday.

Tahnisha Jiminez went 14 of 16 serving, while Payton Walser went 12 of 14 from the service line.

Blue Earth Area 3, Waseca 0 - The Bucs swept the Bluejays, 25-17, 25-14, 25-13, in a South Central Conference match on Thursday night in Waseca.

Krista Hassing led the offense with 21 kills and went 9-for-9 from the service line. Hassing also recorded six digs and three ace blocks for the Bucs' defense.

Janessa Jahnke made 14 kills and had eight digs in the win.

Whitney Pirsig added to the Blue Earth Area offense with four kills and eight digs, while Ashton Hendricksen tallied two blocks.

Audrey McDonald went a perfect 21-for-21 serving with two ace serves and racked up 15 points from the line to help fuel Blue Earth Area's winning ways.

Monica Krieger scattered 37 set assists for the Bucs.

Blue Earth Area (10-2, 5-0 SCC) hosts St. Peter at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Blue Earth.

Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 3, Martin County West 2 - The Knights outlasted the Mavericks, 15-25, 25-22, 25-20, 11-25, 15-12, in a Valley Conference match on Thursday night in Lake Crystal.

Libbie Lange recorded a team-best 13 kills in the match for Martin County West, while teammate Hailey Leiding was right behind with 12 kills.

Kate Thiesse and Taryn Tumbleson each pounded nine kills, while Jordan Gregory had eight for the Mavericks.

Defensively, Molly Klima made 23 digs for MCW, while teammate Morgan Williamson added 19 in the match.

Williamson also distributed 20 set assists in the match, while Kennedy Janssen doled out 10 set assists and made 12 digs.

Jackie Schliesmann added 11 digs, while Autumn Smith tallied six digs for the Mavericks.

Martin County West (10-5) hosts Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Trimont.

Madelia 3, Truman 0 - The Blackhawks swept the Bluejays, 25-22, 26-24, 25-21, in a Valley Conference match on Thursday night in Madelia.

Madelia's Sarah Haynes recorded 15 kills, while Haley Reed added 12 kills and 10 digs for the Blackhawks.

Kayla McCabe made 16 digs in the match. Emily Koehler and Taylor Thomas shared the setting duties, scattering 20 and 16 set assists, respectively.

Truman's Emily Zaharia had a team-best 10 kills along with nine digs, six blocks and one ace serve.

Emma Wiederhoeft made one block and recorded six kills, while Hanna Hartman had five kills, one block and five ace serves.

Savannah Stevens tallied four kills, a team-best 17 digs and two ace serves in the match for the Bluejays.

Alexis Jahnz made six digs, smoked two ace serves and had two kills, while teammate Kaitlin Bloomquist had two ace serves and seven digs.

Madelia (5-3, 2-2 Valley Conference) travels to New Ulm for a 7:30 p.m. nonconference match on Monday against New Ulm Cathedral.

Truman (1-9, 0-5 Valley) hosts the Bluejay Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Martin Luther/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain 3, Mankato Loyola 0 - The Knights swept the Crusaders, 25-16, 25-17, 25-15, during a nonconference match on Thursday night in Northrop.

The Knights' Amanda Cegelske dispensed eight kills and had two blocks in the win, while teammate Amber Schulz had six kills and one ace serve.

Effie Bentz made 19 digs for the Knights' defense and had one ace serve.

Catie Sherman recorded two ace serves and had 10 digs in the match for Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain.

Hunter Payne distributed 19 set assists, and made 11 digs along with two ace serves for the Knights.

Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain (3-8, 3-2 Valley) travels to Truman on Saturday to play in the Bluejay Invite.
