Cardinals capture 4th, 7th at Turkey Trot race

WORTHINGTON - Sophomore Katiana Fischer finished in ninth place, while freshman Josiah Johnson placed 10th to pace the Fairmont Cardinal cross country teams to a fourth- and a seventh-place team showing, respectively, at the Turkey Trot Invitational on Thursday in Worthington.

Fischer finished her 4K race in 16 minutes and 32 seconds to lead the Fairmont girls placers at Prairie View Golf Course.

Jenna Pavich was the second Cardinal to cross the finish line, posting a time of 17:18 to collect 21st place and was just one second ahead of teammate Sarah Bartz. Bartz finished 22nd with a time of 17:19.

Emily Haugen ran a career-best time of 17:29 to finish 24th, while Jaclyn Friese completed the counting scores for Fairmont by finishing 30th in a time of 17:43.

For the boys, Johnson ran a career-best 18:09 to top the Cardinals' finishers. Kaleb Linse's race of 19:49 also proved a career-best time for 34th place. Christopher Poush finished 49th in a time of 20:35, while Andrew Johson came in a 20:40 to collect 54th place.

Harley Luhmann rounded out the counting scores for Fairmont with a 58th-place finish and a career-best time of 20:53.

The Martin County West Maverick girls team won the Turkey Trot team championship by a 43-44 margin over Adrian.

In the boys competition, Martin County West captured second place to Worthington, 36-51.

No Martin County West individual girls or boys results were reported.

The Fairmont boys and girls cross country teams play host to the Fairmont Invitational at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Cedar Creek Park in Fairmont.

Martin County West competes against Jackson County Central at 4:30 p.m. next Thursday at Loon Lake Golf Course in Lakefield.
