Richard ‘Rick’ R. Paulson Jr.

MADELIA - Services for Richard "Rick" R. Paulson Jr., 58, of Madelia, Minn., formerly of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Fairmont, with interment in Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. There will also be a visitation from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia, Minn.

Rick passed away on Wednesday evening, Sept. 5, 2012, at his home in Madelia after a courageous battle with cancer. Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Richard "Rick" Roy Paulson Jr. was born Dec. 1, 1953, in Fairmont, Minn. He was the son of Richard "Dick" and Norma (Bellows) Paulson. He attended Fairmont public schools and graduated from Fairmont High School.

Thirty years ago, Rick moved to Madelia, Minn., where he was employed at Enterprise. He worked there for 25 years and did janitorial work for Watonwan County Human Services as well as La Salle Co-op, Madelia Co-op, Library and VFW.

Rick enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., including Hawaii, Indiana and Arizona. He also went to Graceland and on several cruises. Rick loved being involved in the Special Olympics and competed for many years. He loved Duluth and was very proud of his hometown of Fairmont, especially the Fairmont Cardinals. Rick was a collector of many things including hats, T-shirts, books and sailboats. He also loved being out on the boat, his county and firefighters.

Family was very important to Rick. He was a gift to his family and will be missed by all those who knew him. Rick's family would like to thank the staff at COR, especially Kayla Herman and Chelsea Hoeft, for the care they gave Rick over the years. They would also like to thank Rick's former caregiver and friend, Nancy Stevensen.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Norma Skordahl and her husband, Vernon, of Bloomington, Minn.; siblings, Diane Draper and her husband, Jim, of Fairmont, Minn., Gregg Paulson and his wife, Katy, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mari Myren and her husband, Steven, of Fischers, Ind.; nieces and nephews, James Draper and his wife, Katie, of Ivanhoe, Minn., Dana Draper of Fairmont, Minn., Anthony Myren, Chelsea Myren, Joseph Myren and Garrett Myren, all of Fischers, Ind., and Jack Paulson and Anna Paulson, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three great-nieces and -nephews; uncle, Ran Bellows and his wife, Jeff, of Golden, Colo; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard Roy Paulson Sr.; grandparents, Roy and Martha Paulson; and grandma, Norma R. Bellows.
