CANNON FALLS - Blue Earth Area's girls tennis team started out its 2012 season with a split in a triangular meet against the Cannon Falls Bombers and the Minneapolis Washburn Millers on Tuesday in Cannon Falls.
After dropping their first meet to the host Bombers, 5-2, the Bucs rebounded to take a 5-2 win over the Millers in the second meet.
Against Cannon Falls, Blue Earth Area freshman Anikka Wilhelmi took the third singles victory, 6-4, 6-2 over fellow freshman McKenna Bauer for one of the Buc's two individual points. Sophomore Kaitlyn Olsen secured the second Bucs' point at fourth singles, defeating Grace Rutter, 6-1, 6-0.
Blue Earth Area swept Minneapolis Washburn in the doubles bracket to take the 5-2 team win.
The freshman duo of Natali Fellows and Karli Olsen cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Annie Harincar and Tattiana Gilbert at the No. 1 spot.
Blue Earth Area seniors Abby Nimz and Aeli Olson took the second doubles win, defeating Emma Syring and Penelope Lancrete, 6-1, 6-0.
Autumn Drake and Paige Darrington completed the Bucs' doubles sweep with a, 6-2, 6-2 win over Elle LaMere and Maddy Hillyer at the third position.
Wilhelmi and Kaitlyn Olsen each took victories to aid the 5-2 team victory. Olsen secured a 6-2, 6-1 fourth singles win over Washburn's Rachel Haim, and Wilhelmi took a win by forfeit over Ana Zembryki at third singles.
Blue Earth Area (1-1) travels to Le Sueur-Henderson for a 9:30 a.m. match today.
