FAIRMONT - Celebration of Life Services for Mavis L. Rosburg, 82, of Fairmont will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 300 South Grant Street, Fairmont, MN 56031. Burial will be following the service in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and also one hour prior to the time of service Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church.
Mavis passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012, at the St. Luke's Lutheran Home in Blue Earth. The Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mavis LaVonne (Johnson) Rosburg was born September 1, 1929, in Emmet County, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Jr. and Frances (McDermott) Johnson. As a young girl, Mavis attended school in Armstrong and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1947. Following her graduation, Mavis attended the Mason City Business School in Mason City, Iowa, and earned her degree in 1949.
On January 21, 1951, Mavis was united in marriage to Elmer Rosburg in Armstrong, Iowa. Together the couple made their home in Fairmont where they were blessed with four sons, Jim, Jerry, Jay and Jeff.
Mavis worked for many years as the bookkeeper and office manager at Cavers Realty in Fairmont. In her spare time, Mavis enjoyed cooking and during the Christmas Season, she treasured the opportunity to make Christmas goodies for all of her friends and family. Mavis cherished times spent with her sons and their families and loved working in the outdoors, mowing and tending to her flowers. Mavis was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont where she was an active member. She was a devoted Lutheran and lived her life by faith. Her favorite Bible verse was 1 Corinthians 13:13, "And now these three remain: faith, hope, love. But the greatest of these is love." This verse held true for Mavis' life as she took great pride in being a loving caretaker for her family and a shoulder to lean on for her many friends. Her zest for life and her kind and caring ways will be greatly missed by those that loved her and called her friend.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jim (Carrie) Rosburg of Fairmont, Jerry (Sherry) Rosburg of Baltimore, Md., Jay (Rhonda) Rosburg of Rochester, and Jeff (Kathy) Rosburg of Mazeppa; grandchildren, Megan Rosburg, Jerad Rosburg and Margaret Rosburg all of Baltimore, Md., and Jevin Rosburg of Mazeppa; two siblings, Arlene Volding and Gailen Johnson; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jr. and Frances Johnson; her husband, Elmer Rosburg; a sister, Bernadine Schuster; and two brothers, Donald Johnson and Earl Johnson.
The family requests memorial be given in Mavis' name to Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont and St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, MN.
