To The Editor:
On Tuesday, the constituents of the First Congressional District in Minnesota will have the opportunity to vote in the primary for Allen Quist, who is committed to debt reduction and fiscal responsibility in government.
Allen Quist will be able to best represent us in Congress. Even the StarTribune, in an endorsement of Allen Quist, stated that the St. Peter farmer and recently retired government professor from Bethany Lutheran College demonstrates deeper knowledge of the issues that confront Congress and more ability to debate them with (Congressman Tim) Walz this fall.
Examples like the cap and trade bill that Congressman Walz enthusiastically supported is not about protecting our environment but rather about transferring the wealth of the United States to other countries.
President Obama has said: "We need to spread the wealth around." Tim Walz obviously agrees and wants to redistribute our wealth to the rest of the world.
The Heritage Foundation calculated that the cap and trade bill would cost the average U.S. family of four $6,800 per year in added energy costs while any positive effect on the environment would be barely measurable, at best.
We need to put a stop to this kind of thinking and irresponsible actions by our current congressman by replacing him, and the first step is to vote for Allen Quist in the Tuesday, Aug. 14, primary.
