FAIRMONT - Despite a rain delay in Game 2 of the Fairmont Martins' best-of-three series against the Pipestone A's on Friday, the Martins were able to finish the two-game sweep on Saturday with a 12-3 victory in Pipestone.
Fairmont (27-6) will host the Jackson Bulls in a game to determine seeding at the state tournament 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Herb Wolf Field.
Pipestone will have a best-of-three series against Wilmont starting 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for the final state tournament bid.
The two teams made it through 4 1/3 innings on Friday night before the rain forced the game into a second day.
Fairmont's Shaun McGuire started on the mound, pitching the 4 1/3 innings and giving up one run to the A's offense.
The Martins scored four runs in the top of the third to give them a 5-1 edge going into Saturday.
Saturday's portion of the game ended the way it started, with Fairmont in the lead.
Fairmont added seven runs giving the Martins a 12-3 victory and a state tournament bid.
McGuire was able to finish out the game on the mound after a night's rest, allowing three runs in the game on six hits and striking out 10.
Aaron Siefken had two hits, including a solo home run, and collected three RBIs to pace the Martins in the win.
Jordan Petschke and Adam Schmidt each added two hits, including a double, and both collected two RBIs to add to the offensive effort.
Max Waletich had two hits, including a double, while Ian Bents had two hits and collected an RBI for Fairmont.
McGuire helped the?Martins at the plate with two hits, and Jon Ellis added a hit and an RBI. The State Amateur Baseball Tournament will be held at Joe Faber and Dick Putz Fields in St. Cloud from Aug. 17-Sept. 3.
