TRUMAN - Truman is ready for an influx of tourists this weekend, all coming to celebrate Truman Days beginning Thursday morning with garage sales.

Barb Mager, a Truman Days board member, says the garage sales bring in thousands of people to scour 168 sales over three days, while Saturday's parade draws 5,000 or more.

"People are really surprised," she said. "There are people five and six deep along the parade route."

The population of Truman is 1,200.

New to this year's event are drumline performances Saturday after the parade. SuFuDu Drum Line from Sioux Falls and Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps from St. Peter will perform.

Before the parade, concerts will be held beginning at 1 p.m. in Graf Park, including Steve Lang, a Truman talent show, Schell's Hobo Band, and Jim Lawrence Orchestra.

The Truman Police Department will sponsor a rollover car crash simulator at 11 a.m. at the park.

"It is kind of dramatic thing to see how fast it can happen," Mager said.

Also new this year to the festival is a pork meal fund-raiser for the newly formed Jaguar football team after the parade. Proceeds will be used to purchase uniforms. The team involves an agreement between Granada-Huntley-East Chain and Truman schools.
