FAIRMONT - The Fairmont Legion Post 36 baseball team knocked in 12 runs on 18 hits in a 12-5 victory over New Ulm on Thursday at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.
Fairmont scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to an early lead. Post 36 held New Ulm to five runs the rest of the game, allowing just six hits in the victory.
Fairmont's Max Waletich had four hits, scored two runs and collected three RBIs to lead the offensive effort. Andy Reiter had three hits including a double, while Levi Becker had three hits and scored two runs to add to Fairmont's offense.
Ryan Noll collected three RBIs on two hits for Fairmont. Luke Becker scored twice and had two hits in the game.
Fairmont's Bryce Holm earned the win for Fairmont, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on two hits, with two strikeouts and three walks.
Jordan Voss came in for relief and pitched two innnings, giving up one run on three hits and striking out three.
Waletich closed out the final two innings for Fairmont on the mound and gave up just one run on one hit and struck out three.
New Ulm's Jim Holstien pitched the first three innings, and gave up seven runs on 11 hits and struck out two.
Cole Dulas came in for relief for New Ulm and pitched two innings, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out three.
Josh Kienlan threw the final inning for New Ulm, giving up three runs on three hits and walking three.
Holstien had one hit, 2 RBIs and a run scored to lead the New Ulm offense. Dulas added two hits, including a double to generate some offense.
Fairmont Legion Post 36 (1-0) travels to Henderson today to play Kenyon-Wanamingo in a 9 a.m. tournament game and will play BOLD at 2 p.m. in Henderson.
