To the Editor:
We moved to Fairmont in November. Before moving and since being here, we have heard both good and bad stories about the hospital here in town. Well, we had a chance to form our own opinions on May 3, when my husband went to the emergency room when he was having a heart attack.
My husband didn't feel well, didn't think he was having a heart attack, but allowed me to drive him to the emergency room. We were not there more than a minute and they had him hooked up to monitors, and they knew he was in a full-blown heart attack. The emergency room staff was fast, knowledgeable, proficient, caring and truly awesome. We believe they saved his life that day.
The doctor who was on call, Dr. Anderson, was fantastic. As a team, they had my husband stabilized, and ready to be air-lifted to Mankato in less than 45 minutes.
My husband received fast, excellent care. We would be disappointed if this service was not in place here in the community. Until you need this service, you don't know how valuable it is. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks for all the doctors who take their turn in rotation for the on-call duty for the emergency room.
What a valuable asset the hospital is for Fairmont and the surrounding communities. We are happy we chose to retire in Fairmont.
