President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, delivered Tuesday, was a campaign speech. Of that there should be no doubt, as the president continues working hard for re-election next fall.
Obama maintains his administration has achieved much for Americans, that "change" has been brought to Washington.
In a way the president probably hopes voters will not recognize, much has changed. Consider:
o When Obama took office in January 2009, the national debt was $10.6 trillion. It is now $15.2 trillion, having increased by approximately $1.5 trillion per year during Obama's time in office.
o In 2008, before Obama took office, the federal budget was $2.98 trillion. It has risen under Obama to $3.75 trillion.
o When Obama took office, the nation's unemployment rate was 8.3 percent. It now is 8.5 percent.
Yes, Obama has brought "change" to Americans. You decide whether it has been beneficial or not.
