To the Editor:
Last month saw the launch of "Hunting Works for Minnesota," a new partnership between businesses, associations and hunting groups throughout Minnesota (www.huntingworksformn.com). The Fairmont Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitors Bureau are proud to be parts of this organization. Together we recognize that hunting, shooting and other outdoor activities draw visitors to the Fairmont area, and this strengthens our local economy.
Hunting in Minnesota brings a lot of positive economic activity that we believe needs to be recognized and encouraged, especially in our region. There are more than 597,000 hunters in Minnesota, and each year they spend more than $400 million dollars. Locally, we are excited to welcome the 4-H State Shooting Sports next fall. It will bring hundreds of families that will stay at local hotels, eat at local restaurants and shop at other area businesses.
The Chamber and Visitors Bureau are committed to building Fairmont's economy and we agree that hunting and the shooting sports are an integral part of that economy.
