To the Editor:
On behalf of the teachers at Fairmont Area Schools, I would like to say thank you to the business leaders who came into the schools the past several weeks to teach a class for a day.
This was not a red carpet tour, but a real, roll-up-your-sleeves day where business people work side by side with students and educators in our classroom. This opportunity enabled business and community leaders to see first-hand the challenges and the triumphs happening every day in schools across the state.
Sentinel staff writer Kylie Saari was one of the participants in the program. Several weeks ago, she wrote an excellent article that summarized her experience. For this we thank her. Also, many of you may have watched KEYC-TV and saw the interviews by some of the educators and business participants involved in the program.
I also would like to give special thanks to Bob Wallace, Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce director for his help with the organization of this event with our business leaders. Without his assistance, the project may not have not gotten off the ground.
Finally, thank you to Fred W. Krahmer, Doug Hoffman, Sharon Kusick, Ian Bents and Kylie Saari for taking time out of their busy schedule to be a teacher for the day. Hopefully their experience will be remembered for many years to come.
