SHERBURN - A Celebration of Life Service for Ray Johnson, 92, of Sherburn, Minn., will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn., with the Rev. Steven D. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre, Minn., with full military honors by United Veterans Honor Guard Post 67 of Sauk Centre, Minn.

Ray died on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2009, at Temp-erance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn, Minn. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.

Raymond Olger Johnson was born Aug. 27, 1916, to Alfred and Astrid (Frisvold) Johnson in Minneapolis, Minn. He was baptized and later reaffirmed his faith at his confirmation in the Lutheran church. He attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1934. On Jan. 30, 1941, Ray was united in marriage to Lucille Kind in Chisago City, Minn. After their marriage they lived in Sauk Centre, Minn., where Ray was employed at the Midland Co-op. He joined the Navy during WWII and served as a radio man aboard ships and planes searching for German submarines in the Pacific. Ray and Lucille later moved to Belgrade, Minn., and in 1958 moved to Sherburn. Ray was the manager of the Midland Co-op in Sherburn until his retirement in January 1982. Ray was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn. He was a member of the Thomas P. Saxton American Legion. Ray greatly enjoyed golfing and was a member at the Fox Lake Golf Course. He and Lucille loved spending their winters in Texas.

Ray was greatly loved and will be missed by his son, Jerry Johnson and his wife, Doris, of Miltona, Minn.; his daughter, Kathy Powers and her husband, Tom, of Minnetonka, Minn.; six grandchildren, Kari Schuld and her husband, Paul of Cottonwood, Minn., Heather Johnson of Lino Lakes, Minn., Dustin Powers and his fiancee Natalie Rosengren of Minneapolis, Minn., Lindsey Powers of Lawrence, Kansas, Nicholas and Jack Powers of Minnetonka, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Lauren Schuld of Cottonwood, Minn.; sister Vivian Wieden of New Richmond, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law Etta Kind of Moorhead, Minn., and Verna Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lucille; infant daughter Janice; brothers, Gordon and Vernon Johnson, William West; and other relatives and friends.
