ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Robert Earl Gardner, Col. (Ret.), USAF. On Saturday, October 11, 2008, in Alexandria, Va.
Robert was the loving husband of Cyndy Gardner, father of Kimberly Ann Becouvarakis, Bradley R. Gardner, Steven R. Gardner, Kelsi Jennings Gardner and Kenzie Lee Gardner, and grandfather of five.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 24 years, including three tours of combat in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his valor. Following his military retirement, Robert worked as a contractor for Logicon for 13 more years before fully retiring. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Robert was a huge college football fan. He also was a devoted NASCAR fan who loved Dale Earnhardt. Robert was most recently found enjoying his latest and last job as a cafeteria host for the Weyanoke Elementary School.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Rd, Springfield, VA 22151. Burial with military honors will take place at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
