Stillwater officials want festival name changed

STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) — Stillwater city officials are asking organizers of a new summer music festival called Stillwater Log Jam to change the name, saying it could be construed as vulgar.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports ( ) City Administrator Larry Hansen emailed festival organizer Cassie McLemore on Thursday to request the name change. He said it could be construed in a sexual way.

McLemore says no one had a problem with it last fall when the city council approved the group's proposal. She says the group doesn't plan a change.

She says city officials are being too sensitive and are making a "mountain out of a molehill." She says the other reference wouldn't cross most people's minds.

McLemore says the name also fits with the city's history, since it was a logging community.
