MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A mentally ill patient at the Minnesota Security Hospital allegedly told authorities that he assaulted a fellow patient because he was angry with staff and he wanted to get their attention.
Thirty-one-year-old Darnell Dee Whitefeather was charged Friday with murder. According to a criminal complaint, he admitted to stomping on the victim's head possibly as many as 30 times.
Forty-one-year-old Michael Francis Douglas was found lying in his room Wednesday night with severe head trauma. He died of his injuries.
The complaint says Whitefeather told police he had no prior issues with Douglas.
The Minnesota Security Hospital serves people who are committed as mentally ill or mentally ill and dangerous. Both men had been committed to the hospital last year.
It was not immediately clear if Whitefeather had an attorney.
