If Joplin happened here we would have another 40,000 people to worry about.

Oh duck, I thought that was you. You're the guy walking around town wearing the helmet, you know being safe. Read your statement again. If Joplin happens here their are already Many state, county and local employees who are already on the payroll to handle what needs to be done. Plus community leaders, many who already volunteer their time for the greater good are notorious for stepping up when they are needed. Quit being so helpless.

The issue here is not about the construction worker vs emergency manager job justification. The real issue should be that a department was not created independently and that our lame duck Sherrif got his gal the job. 18 applicants some of which had light years more experience than Ms Akers along with college degrees in this exact field, were shafted. Everyone in the Martin County Emergency Services field knew that from day one that this job was hers to lose not to earn because she was the chosen one. Ms Akers good luck cause based on the candidates you were up against you have a steep learning curve.

OK Joe you were the one who said that the construction workers are a waste holding up a sign that ensures the safety of co-workers, and just like this county position she is working for our safety. So no I did not make that progression, you did!! Anything that works for our safety is necessary. I would hate for a situation like what Joplin MO. and we not have a dedicated person to handle everything. Grow up Joe

I see the lame duck made the natural progression from a construction worker doing nothing to a county worker? Hmmm? And you felt so strongly you had to say it twice. It must be true.
