So one of the companies in our community announces its shuting down and the city councils response is to question whether another company is going to shut down? Really? If our leaders would support businesses instead of bashing them or questioning them perhaps they would stay. Seems like we're shooting ourseleves in the foot.

I really do not have a dog in this fight as I left Fairmont in 1989, but I still have family there. It just saddens me to see what is happening to my 'hometown'. My father worked at Railway Motors for 30 plus years and now there are no real wage jobs in Fairmont. Meanwhile Jackson and other small towns around Minnesota are growing again, meanwhile Fairmont continues its long, slow demise into oblivion.

"City administrator Mike Humpal informed the council he has been meeting with regional Mayo leadership on a regular basis." Whew, I feel better already.

I agree with Postive Thinker. People should be supporting local businesses not wondering how they are going to go under.

The hospital was dying long before Mayo was brought into the equation. If things had continued like before, Fairmont would already be out of a hospital. The community needs to realize that some services were not used enough to pay the bills, which is why they were relocated. Instead of trashing Mayo and its methods, try paying attention and making changes. The coming trends from the government are to pay less and treat more, so every hospital in the country is at risk. Fairmont needs to wake up, quit complaining, and help make the hospital grand again.
