"This is my airport..."

And all this time I thought that airport belonged to the State of MN and the FAA.

Joe and Jay, you are g*dd*mn right I am mad the airport can't be shutdown for WHAT EVER. Evidently the airport does not belong to the city of Fairmont.

My Dad was a member of the Jaycees that brought AIRSHOWS to the BE airport when I was growing up.

When was the last time there was an AIRSHOW/ EXHIBIT at the Fairmont or BE airport?

Btw, how many days has the precious Fairmont airstrip been closed by construction? Yet it CANNOT be close ONE Sunday afternoon... How many daily commercial flights are scheduled to Fairmont?

The construction doesn't shut down the airport. If you were a pilot, you'd know that. Or if you'd bother to ask people who knew about aviation.

And there's far more to aviation than airlines.

The taxiway is being used for a runway during construction. When you get in bed with the devil, accept federal and state funds, you are restricted to the usage. Those who do it anyway are gambling that they won't get caught. If they do the future funds are probably going elsewhere

"The construction doesn't shut down the airport."

I am aware that the taxiway is being used during construction. Why can't the taxiway then be used for...

"When you get in bed with the devil"

My premise is why we are bedding w/ the devil when it is our own entity? Either the city owns it, or the devil does.

Why can't the taxiway be used for drag racing? Because it would shut down the airport. This is not a difficult concept.

The City of Fairmont owns it, but it accepted grant money to improve it. Those grants, like all Federal dollars, came with strings attached. Those strings say that it's an airport, to be used as an airport. Period.

Blue- I have a few questions. How much time have you spent at the airport? Do you know how many businesses from town use the airport daily? Do you know how many businesses from away from the area come to Fairmont through the airport?

Do you call Fairmont YOUR town? If not where are you from?

And last but not least. I agree the airport would be a great place for drag racing. Being a race fan myself I would be all about it. It is to bad the government has to get in the middle of it to make it not possible.Beings the airport wont work, why can't we shut down State Street, Blue Earth Ave., or in front of Fairgrounds?

And as far as airshows, etc., that is what the city is trying to get control of. They contracted the airport to 5 Lakes Aviation so legally they didn't have a say over what happened out there is what I was told. I feel there is probably some fudge in that story. But it is what it is. So instead of complaining about it on here come up with a resolution

"why can't we shut down State Street, Blue Earth Ave., or in front of Fairgrounds?"

State Street? Where are you going to have people park, stage cars? Agreed, fairgrounds might work, but there you involve the county, and there are businesses/ ditches that cars could careen off into. What about crowd control?

Whatever happened to the American spirit of throwing something together for the weekend? Instead we constrain ourselves to countless levels of permitting, scrutiny, and regulation.
