Now if we could have all those things Putt Putt - Movie Theatre and upgrades - Fairmont may be a place young families will want to stay. We need to talk about wish list for Winter activities as well...indoor putt putt and youth center? If City can support and run a liquor store it definitely can open up a one or two screen movie theatre. Also the Mall Parking lot needs help - potholes are bad and dangerous. Ok that's my two cents worth

i agree with fmt resident, the liquor store made record profits and paid for itself. i wish someone would turn the old K-mart into a family funplex, a theatre, go carts, minigolf, something...if i had the money or credit rating, that would be something i would try on my own

Meximo I have also thought about that, im sure I have the credit to get it done just not the time. It would have to be a all in one facility to keep the people coming for sure. I always think of the things people go to Mankato for, and if we had them I wouldn't have any reason to go up their, Menards, Wow Zone, Movies......

Comparing a young, growing city of 60,000 to an old, dying city of 10,000 is a waste of everyone's time, just don't do it.

Wow. How many times do I have to say it? If there aren't enough well paying full time jobs in the town, there is not going to be enough extra money in peoples pockets to go spend on movies, go kart tracks, what ever. The more that is bled out of the people like the school referendum, the property taxes and now the wheelage tax, the less there is to spend for the few young families in fairmont. All the older residents can still always support the restaurants in town. The number one focus that the leadership in Fairmont should have is getting high quality good paying jobs into town. Without that the town is just a retirement community. And if you are lucky enough to have a $25 dollar an hour job and your spouse does too then you are doing ok but you probably are disappointed that you have to go to mankato to have any fun or go shopping.

Phoenix, how, precisely, do you think we can get jobs here? And how, precisely, do you think that city and county government can do it? Or do you just think they can wave a magic want, throw a little money around, and voila?

fairnot, your an idiot, I do believe the softball fields had 30 plus teams play there a few weeks ago. That is 3000 people if they each spend 5.00 that is $15,000.00 in revenue in one weekend. plus the soccer complex did the same. Do you people know that sales tax is higher in mankato then in fairmont? shop local and the money will stay local. People in the cities commute an hour to a job. Why can't the people of fairmont commute 25 minutes to jackson or blue earth. Agco is adding yet another 70 employees. If you don't want to be a factory worker then maybe you need to go back to school. You people are bleeding martin county dry not the city officials.

Where did their 5 bucks go? McDonald's or subway? The reason kato can have an additional sales tax is because all the surrounding towns people work and shop there. Ever shop for clothes for a teenager in fairmont? HA!!
