Why should there be negotiations with Five Lakes Aviation. There is more than enough documentation that he has repeatedly failed to do his job. He repeatedly violated his contract. He deserves nothing from what is left of his contract

It is really funny that there can be construction equipment at the Fairmont city airport for two months, all over the place, but not ONE Sunday afternoon can be set aside for drag races...

The federal government is paying for the construction equipment...and that's not shutting down the airport, as drag races would.

The problems wiht drag races at the airport have been explained repeatedly: the biggest is that the feds and the state of Minnesota (which pays a lot of the bills) say no. Quit complaining at us and at the city, and start complaining at them.

So we are saying that drag races that encompass ONE Sunday afternoon are such a hindrance to the economic viability of the City of Fairmont? Yet construction vehicles can block a runway for days at a time. I would say the people lost control of their "airport". I could care less that the state and feds injected money into an entity. Darn it, that airport is there because of the city, not the other way around. Btw, when is the next scheduled passenger flight arriving?

It's not about economic viability. It's about federal and state laws that govern grants for airport construction. Under those laws, the airport is for aviation, not drag racing. You may not care much about them, but the FAA and MnDOT do.

The construction vehicles are there as a direct result of those grants. Violating the grant terms would result not only in lawsuits that would cost lots of money, but likely would force repayment of that grant money. MIllions of dollars of it. You think drag racing would offset all of that, never mind the economic impact?

If you think drag racing will be such a benefit, I'm sure you can buy a mile long strip of land somewhere and make money off of a track. Knock yourself out. But leave our airport alone. Just because you don't use it doesn't mean it doesn't benefit the city as whole.

Oh, and one other note. The airport is still open during the construction. Yes, runway 13/31 is torn up, but the adjacent taxiway is in use as the runway.

If you want a drag race so bad see if you can rent hwy 15 for the day. These issues with the airport have nothing to do with a foolish race it's about Five Lakes job performance

Hey it was great gig while it lasted...right Al? After all, who else could be paid by the "government" and actually do little or nothing for the pay....OH that's right Bob Gunther has managed to do so for years!! However, did Bob remodel a Fairmont lake home, while being paid by the taxpayer?? Great job Al and nice house too!!
