Markquart's predecessor was actively hostile to gun rights. He went on record as opposing shall-issue carry permits, and refused to accept my renewal application during the time the law allowed it to be filed. I hope Markquart is more open to the right of the people to keep and bear arms, but I'm not as hopeful as I should be.

The reason people are buying guns and ammunition is simple: we don't trust the politicians. They claim they're not out to confiscate guns. The actual legislation filed tells a different story. See HF 241: it is essentially a ban and confiscation of so-called "assault weapons", and HF 243 is the same for magazines over 7 rounds.

We need to explain to politicians in terms that even they can understand that we will not sit still and let the government confiscate our firearms.

The Government claims that they don't want to infringe on our rights to own firearms. If you look at Bill's that were introduced on Thursday you will see that is not the case. Bills introduced include HF 184, HF 237, HF 238, HF 240-244.

Please take the time to read the Bills for yourself. You will find these are a set of Draconian Bills that will strip you of most of your rights when it comes to owning, carrying or transferring your firearms.

Understand these Bills will go as far as making it illegal to own most semi-automatic 22lr pistols and rifles. This includes something as simple as a Ruger 10-22 which many people that shoot in our area have.

Heh...no, I simply submitted the renewal 60 days before the permit expired, and the sheriff rejected it until 30 days prior. In regular street clothes.

Where do you carry a gun in the Tron Guy suit? Never mind, I probably don't want to know.

My personal feeling is there should not be a need to issue a permit to carry, as the 2nd clause of the 2nd Amendment clearly states "the right to bear arms shall not be infringed".

That being said, I generally do not have a problem w/ taking some instruction/ class and submitting for a background check. The end result being, all the state wants is our money, like all politicians want...

At least Klobuchar and Franken have not turned to what Disnne Feinstein from California wants). I do not believe Feinstein's bill has any chance of passing.

Nice to see that some of you won't rest until we have twin 50 caliber machine guns on the hoods of our vehicles and enough armor plating bullets to cut a moose in half. I don't know how every other first world nation on the planet gets by without it.

While DickieVeesHairdresser and I do not see eye-to-eye on many issues, I don't think I ever advocated for "twin 50 caliber machine guns on the hoods of our vehicles and enough armor plating bullets to cut a moose in half", nor has anyone else. This is what you think you will see in the local Hy-Vee parking lot, DickieVeesHairdresser?

I guess the scary thing for you would be the fact that a 50 cal **could be owned** by a private citizen. Get a FFL, pay the tax, and register it.

What are "armor plating bullets"?

DickieVeesHairdresser, are there moose in Martin County now? Trouble is, hit one of them w/ a car and it will come into your windshield area. A deer, dog, or raccoon, not so much...

No one is going to take away your precious guns, heaven's forbid. The problem is the gun violence in this country. No other civilized country on this earth comes anywhere close to the daily carnage we see daily on the news. The responsible gun owners must be part of the solution. You can't just rant and rave and be paranoid, that doesn't help anything. People are trying to keep guns out of the wrong hands - are you against that?!

Boomerang: Nobody's going to take away our guns? Read HF 241 again. That bill does exactly that.

No other country comes close? THey do when you factor out by far the biggest violence problem, thugs killing other thugs. Without that, our levels of violent crime are quite comparable to any other country. And "gun violence" is a misnomer. The gun is not violent. It's the person that uses it who is.

I've got no problem at all trying to keep guns out of the wrong hands. The problem is that gun control is a demonstrated failure. It will have no effect on criminals because, by definition, a criminal is someone who doesn't obey the law. Come up with something other than the same old tired and failed ideas, and I'll listen. But don't punish me for the acts of inner city thugs and crazies.

"The responsible gun owners must be part of the solution"

We are. Why is it that most of these shootings have happened because the perp has been noted to be unstable? When was the last time someone w/ a carry permit was involved in a shooting?

"People are trying to keep guns out of the wrong hands - are you against that?!"

No. How do you stop the Adam Lanza's by taking weapons away from responsible citizens?

"The problem is that gun control is a demonstrated failure. It will have no effect on criminals because, by definition, a criminal is someone who doesn't obey the law."

Agreed! The last murder in Faribault County was w/ a hammer. The murder prior to that was a strangulation.

I have yet to see any evidence of how taking guns away fixes the gun violence issues in this country. I think the govt. should offer free training course through our national guard, along with gun safety and ways to disarm a criminal/situation. When right to bear arms was put into place nobody was scared of a gun only of the person holding it. We need to get back to that, where 9 out of 10 people can pick up and gun and be able to use it properly.

I would like to see some national statistics of how many people were turned down for guns because of a background check. I think it would be very low because criminals do not acquire guns legally. I would also like to see how many gun crimes are committed by a person that legally purchased that gun.

Looks like by May of 2014 we'll be ready to confiscate all your guns and send them to our buddies in Cuba. Then I can finally fulfill my dream of having Castro at my house for dinner.

I didn't know you spoke Spanish DickieVeesHairdresser! We should have "normalized " relations w/ Cuba long ago. Capitalism would have put Castro out-of-business. Then I would be able to get a cheap '57 Chevy...
