Great letter, Allen. It is sad when we only worry about lives lost that agree with a certain political agenda and ignore other lives. An editorial like this could be in the Sentinel every day and it wouldn't be enough.

It truly bothers me to no end that abortion is still legal in the US, with a son of my own I learned first hand how precious life is. But please don't completely persecution Planned Parenthood, while yes they do abortions, but they also do very important work in preventing more babies from being conceived with birth control to those who maybe couldn't afford it, STD and AIDS prevention, annual check-ups, and education.

Those who support abortion have already been born.

54 million "babies" prevented due to abortion. How many of those would have been viable, how many of those would have had loving and nurturing parents (notice I used the plural), how many would have been forced into the never ending cycle of the welfare state. With that said, humans have never been used the best judgment when making love.

I is sad the number of babies that are aborted,no one would dispute that. But how about the 100,000 childern that are born addicted to drugs and alchol. No one seems to say any thing about them. About 10 years ago there was a tv movie about this and it is sad no one loves these kids but the docotors and nurses that take care of them. These childern are just as imortant as any others but they are no perfect so....

It is odd that the same people that blame the rich for everything think it is a good idea to murder the babies of the poor because there is a chance they may not have a perfect life. Maybe murder should be legal up to 5 yrs. The argument about a viable life is the still the same. Leave a 3 year old alone for a week and he will probably die so I guess he wasn't "viable".

Let's give automatic weapons to babies while they're in utero.

They aren't viable and have no constituional rights or any other rights for that matter. They aren't people, but it doesn't matter it is the gun that kills, not the person. Guns are randomly killing around the country every day.

Madmarine, are you really saying you think abortion is a rich - "poor" thing? Apparently you've never been to the inner city where some people pump out babies like it's a job. It's as much or more of an issue for middle/upper class 15 and 16 year olds as it is a "poor" issue. Girls who's parents are afraid their friends at church will find out their 15 year old daughter is knocked up.

Those are extreme cases. It is a rich/poor thing.

The abortion rate of women with Medicaid coverage is three times as high as that of other women (NAF).
