Local soldier to be honored at car show
NORTHROP — Jeff Lamont, formerly of Blue Earth, was seriously injured in Iraq in 2003 when he was a specialist with the U.S. Army. Lamont will be honored Friday by Northrop American Legion Post 522, during its second annual car show and motorcycle rally. The event runs 5 p.m.-10 p.m., with a Patriot Guard flag line at 6 p.m. Patriot Guard members from all over central and southern Minnesota are expected to attend. The guard will line the street in front of the Legion with their motorcycles and American flags. Chuck Mixson, adjutant for the Legion, said the rally is a fund-raiser for the Legion, but this year it wanted to honor Lamont again. After the attacks at the World Trade Center in New York, Mixon invited people to hold a flag with him along Highway 15 as a fund-raiser for New York City firefighters. More than 400 people showed up and within six hours $24,000 was raised. Lamont suffered multiple gunshot wounds from an attack in Iraq in June 2003.
