| | Three more weeksAugust 13, 2012 - Jennifer BrookensAs I suspected, the first two months of summer were a complete blur of daycamps, summer schools and vacations. We're down to three weeks now before the kids are back in the classroom... and I can't wait! While the fair is a nice distraction for this week, these other "non-action" weeks I'm bombarded with choruses of "I'm bored," and more screaming throw-down matches between the siblings. Heaven forbid they go play in their own rooms, or all the toys in the backyard.... Nooooo, both have to be on the same couch, on the same side and they're willing to draw blood for it. The only time I don't get the "I'm bored" chorus is if I let them get away with usurping my laptop to play games or letting them watch their favorite "Alvin and the Chipmunks" DVD on repeat all day, while I do all the chores that a certain someone agreed to do when she decided she wanted an allowance six months ago. Um... no. Mommy's not in the mood to play martyr, thank you very much. So then I get the "Mean Momma" face on, and then we get stomping around the house at the unfairness of it all. But five minutes later, someone will start asking if they've earned the wristbands for the fair yet. Sometimes I'm surprised I don't drink more often. But perhaps the fair atmosphere, two birthday boys, and some vacation time together will help this jaded mom before the calendar flips to September. Or will it just drive me more insane? I love you, Summer, but I really am looking forward to getting these kids "back to normal." I need my sanity back... Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
