They are sooo cute. Let's eat 'em!

I have found a curious tendency among farm publications, especially pork publications, recently.

In my position as Ag reporter, I have had opportunity to read a lot of them, and what I found is completely paradoxical. In a magazine about the goodness of pork products, many of the photos are of adorable, clean, kissing-the-camera piglets. It is as if they are hoping someone would say:

They are soooo cute! Let's eat 'em.

Now, for fair disclosure, I am not a pork eater myself, so perhaps I am missing the gene that tells a person to eat something so adorable, and in all fairness, I guess I would rather eat something clean than something shown as dirty and slovenly, but I think my point has been made.

And in case you are wonders, yes, I felt the same way when M&M's started putting faces on their advertising. It is just a little creepy if you ask me.
