| | Mom jeansJanuary 10, 2012 - Jodelle GreinerWhy is the term “mom jeans” an insult? I know it refers to a pair of jeans that are unfashionable, but why “mom”? Why not “plumber jeans” or “trucker jeans”? Why “mom”? Why do we always denigrate motherhood? You may be asking, what’s the big deal, it’s just one phrase. There’s other less innocent terms that are insulting to motherhood, as well. Use your imagination and you can probably come up with at least one that is banned. I think we need to think about the words that come flying out of our mouths. Words have impact and can provoke an immediate response. Over time, words seep into our subconsciousness and poison our attitudes. Think about when you are around someone who is constantly griping and complaining. Do you enjoy their company? Or do you get increasingly tense and upset? Words aren’t just words; they are the way we communicate what’s important to us and how we feel about it. It’s about time we stopped insulting motherhood. If it wasn’t for mothers, NONE of us would be here. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | in: News, Blogs & Events Web |
