| | More chaos for FridayNovember 17, 2011 - Jennifer BrookensWhile everyone else is busy with Football or the GLOWS parade, this Friday I will be preparing for a whole new frontier: the slumber party. It was a moment of weakness, when I told my daughter we wouldn't be able to do the pizza/pool party birthday her friend had done a few weeks before. Gone are the days when my girl was just happy to go out to supper with her family. Nooooo... now she's in the status symbol game. Her friends are having pizza/pool parties, but - sorry, honey - we still gotta eat the rest of the month, and Christmas is on the way... "Maybe," I said before the whole ramification of the words hit me, "You can have a slumber party." Well, that sealed it. Within five minutes, she knew who all she wanted to invite, what they were going to eat, where they would sleep, and what pair of PJs she was going to wear. Needless to say, not all has gone as planned so far. Her promise on helping clean the house for her guests is s-l-o-w-l-y being realized, and there's already been drama of 'this girl doesn't like that girl, but both were told they could come.' How many will actually show is still to be determined since there have been no RSVP calls. (Sadly doesn't surprise me, as I found a few invitations my daughter has received, days after the fact). So whether my house is full of a bunch of giggling girls on Friday night, or if they're all off on three-day weekend adventures, this has already been a learning experience to say the least. My only hope is that my daughter sincerely has a "Happy Birthday" out of this. (The things I put myself through to make it happen though. Oy!) Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
