Impressed with (at least one thing) in Truman

May 20, 2011 - Kylie Saari
Truman has been getting some not so wonderful press lately.

I realize I am the one writing the stories, but I am just reporting what goes on there. Seriously, I couldn't make some of this up if I tried.

So I wanted to point out something I going on there that I think is really great.

I cover school board meetings in Fairmont and Truman, and like most public meetings, not many people show up unless teachers are getting the axe.

But every third Monday in Truman there is at least one other person observing the proceedings. A teacher.

It seems the teachers over there take turns attending the meetings. They take notes on all the happenings, and from what I understand, they report to each other what went down.

I think this is wonderful, and something teachers groups in other districts should consider asking of their members. The teachers then know exactly what their governing board is up to, are available for comment if something comes up, and everyone stays in the loop.
